MLADI LEVI 15 YEARS Making room for changes After 15 years of persistently searching for new mental and physical spaces, asserting new trends in theatre, inventing innovative approaches for the formation and inclusion of audiences and new professionals, raising awareness and transforming the context we live in, one can claim without any false modesty that the Mladi levi festival has evolved into the leading international festival of contemporary performing arts in the area. And since the festival is basically none other than us, the people behind it, and since we like being personal, we’d like to sincerely congratulate ourselves! Unfortunately, there are very few reasons for feeling excessively joyful, for it seems that the crisis we’ve succumbed to has only just begun. Nation states are becoming increasingly locked within their national contexts. Funding for culture, education, science and social justice is being severely diminished while the violation of basic human rights and dignity is becoming a rapidly growing social phenomenon. It seems that those of us working in the arena of culture also find it difficult to face the current crisis, whereas positive ideas for so-called “creative sustainable reform” have not been entirely successful in breaking through. This year’s programme is in tune with the times we live in, as it demonstrates a profound engagement and strong political agenda through the expressive manners of the artists who delve into the issues of blind consumerism, who speak up about energy consumption and chaos and, finally, who don’t shy away from staging direct democracy. Despite the increasingly rising levels of discontent and fear, we have no intention to give in to lethargic indifference. On the contrary: art and culture, and festivals such as the Mladi levi, should strive to gain even greater influence in the future. Thus, the Mladi levi festival is determined to courageously provide space for the confrontation of ideas and formation of new connections. This year, therefore, we will open our door even more widely than ever before, as we search for collective answers, compassion, empathy and also humour. Most importantly, we will search for responsibility in conceiving a world where quality of life and solidarity are embedded with purpose and meaning. Nevenka Koprivšek

OTVORITEV FESTIVALA/OPENING OF THE FESTIVAL

15. mednarodni festival Mladi levi bomo odprli 23. avgusta ob 20.00.

The 15th international Mladi levi festival will open its doors on August 23rd at 8 pm. The first festival evening will take place at the platform by the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. It will start off with a welcoming speech and continue with the solemn opening of the installation Mobile House (Practice for a Revolution), as conceived by the Japanese author Kyohei Sakaguchi. The installation opening will be followed by an invitation for all guests to see the performance Was ist Maribor? as devised by the authors Aljoša Ternovšek, Sebastijan Horvat, Matjaž Latin, Andreja Kopač and many former employees of the Maribor Automobile and Motorcycle Factory (TAM).

You are all kindly invited to attend the young lions’ dance! DJ teoP (Belo Smetje) will be in charge of spinning music, which will blend with a grand video projection by the Japanese video artist Kiyotaka Yoshimitsu to celebrate 15 years of the festival. Yoshimitsu’s video has captured traces left behind by previous festivals and added his authorial touch to this visual reminiscence.

The chef and innovative creator Primož Dolničar, assisted by the ladies from the Activity Centre for the Elderly, will prepare snacks for the festival opening.

Voluntary contributions Putting a price on priceless things is always a futile endeavour, especially since the driving force behind all festival-related activities has never been income for Bunker, but the desire to offer quality art to a wide circle of audiences. The current crisis is increasingly putting a strain on the accessibility of cultural artefacts and goods, which is why we’ve decided to adopt a somewhat more democratic approach to ticket policy: every person should give as much as they believe we deserve. The box for voluntary contributions will stand at every festival venue; you can make contributions before or after each event. The collected funds for this year’s festival will be used for the purchase of a projector bulb and new theatre reflectors that we need to replace the beat-up old ones. We will inform the public about the collected funds after the festival. We kindly ask you to support our festival and future work in accordance with your own possibilities.

Kyohei Sakaguchi MOBILE HOUSE (Practice for a Revolution) (Japonska/Japan)

Home is where the heart is Kyohei Sakaguchi is a special kind of architect. In fact, one might even call him an anti-architect, due to his belief that houses are a commodity to be shared. He is deeply interested in the houses and shelters that are set up by the homeless on the streets of Tokyo. He admires their blend of functionality and style, their use of recycled materials and their ready-made nature, allowing residents to move in anytime and anyplace. According to Sakaguchi, architecture can be experienced in its vivid fullness when one sleeps outside, without any roof or walls. And this is exactly the way he lived when travelling across Japan and India for two years, with no money in his pocket. How much potential does a DIY residence cabin have? For Sakaguchi, architecture is an instinct, a skill, resourcefulness and an archetype. The houses on wheels and the mobile living cabins that he makes invoke the feeling of freedom and human vitality, inspiring people to believe that the society of capitalist greed and consumerism has not entirely succeeded in eradicating the wisdom, creativity, knowledge and ability in us to build something with our very own hands.

Aljoša Ternovšek, Sebastijan Horvat, Matjaž Latin, Andreja Kopač WAS IST MARIBOR? (Slovenija/Slovenia)

Proletarci vseh dežel Dokumentarna predstava Was ist Maribor? je posvečena vzponu in predvsem propadu največjega mariborskega industrijskega giganta, Tovarni avtomobilov in motorjev (TAM), ki je v zlatih časih zagotavljal kruh več kot devet tisočim delavcem. Bil je prava država v državi. Velikan.

Proletarians of the world The documentary performance Was ist Maribor? is dedicated to the rise and especially the fall of the greatest Maribor-based industrial giant: the Maribor Automobile and Motorcycle Factory (TAM), which at its height provided a livelihood for more than nine thousand workers. TAM was what you might call a country within a country. A giant. However, the factory gradually turned into a plundered and ravished industrial landscape due to financial and political agendas that came into being during the transitional era, whereas the workers, selflessly devoted to the factory and to their work, were left with a loss of rights and words. Until now that is. They have finally been given the opportunity to speak up and reveal the truth about the course of their destinies, which seems to contain even more cruelty and drama than any made-up drama could handle. There are real-life victims here. And real-life executioners. This is a dramatic documentary of sincerity and sad absurdity about the times we live in; work is no longer considered a value here and greed no longer counts as a deadly sin.

Reverend Billy, Savitri D Delavnica, pridiga in javna intervencija/Workshop, sermon, public intervention (ZDA/USA)

Rebelation The performer Reverend Billy draws inspiration from American preachers for his flamboyant interventions, which he performs together with a group of activists that he recruits from local communities. The Reverend Billy exorcises the consumerist Devil out of cash-registers or people in shops; he exorcises hypocritical art sponsors who destroy nature and then ask for forgiveness; for example, he exorcised the “evil spirit” of British Petroleum from the Tate Modern. Like the ancient philosopher Diogenes, who carried a lantern around in broad daylight trying to find an honest man, Reverend Billy looks for people in shopping malls. He was preaching on Wall Street and got arrested while licking the cups in a Starbucks coffee shop. In his opinion, people should transform themselves from consumers to citizens. Reverend Billy merely practices what the church preaches. So… what would Jesus buy?

Poezija. Magija.

Pulling through chaos The French contemporary circus performer and stage virtuoso Camille Boitel is an old acquaintance of the Mladi levi festival. His award-winning performance L’Immédiat will breathe life into the magical stage of objects, where nothing is what it seems. Seven young acrobats will draw on their breathtaking physical abilities to defy the ruthless tsunami of destabilizing forces amidst a chaotic reality. Every object and every movement fights against the forces of gravity, released time and time again by Mother Earth in order to keep us bound to her bosom. What you’re about to experience is philosophy in movement; a circus performance, bursting with surrealist imagery, black humour, apocalypse and optimism. Poetry. Magic.

Patrícia Portela, Christoph De Boeck: HORTUS (Portugalska, Belgija/Portugal, Belgium)

Microcosmos of a garden Patrícia Portela and sound artist Christoph De Boeck have joined forces to create a story about a garden, inviting us to follow the example of ancient Greek peripatetic philosophers and embrace the practice of philosophy while walking across a green landscape of sounds, messages and micro-stories, listening to lectures about humanity, nature and civilization. The garden is covered with sensory devices measuring the dynamics of wind and light while translating the photosynthetic process into the melodious singing of birds. De Boeck’s measurement system is based on an algorithm generally used in financial markets. If the essence of our society would resemble that of flowers, then progress wouldn’t be measured by the standards of material wealth, but by the intensity of blooming. Or, as Henry David Thoreau would say, if a forest is not in you when you are in a forest, then what exactly gives you the right to be in a forest?

Motus ALEXIS.

Resistance The Italian performance group Motus succeeded in mesmerising audiences at last year’s Mladi levi festival with their captivating performance Too Late! of Brecht’s Antigone. As the embodiment of political theatre par excellence, Motus dauntlessly produces performances that poke you in the eye, allowing new and closer perspectives, while the virtuosic strength of the protagonists awakens and sobers up the audience. Borders between countries, historical events, art and social engagement are rendered null and void for Motus. Has there ever been a more appropriate time to stage Greek tragedies? There, on the streets of Greece, amongst protesters and graffiti, which seem more palpably real than the discredited media – that’s where you’ll find Motus. Have the stories of Greek heroes and their resistance against kings and authorities ever felt more relevant than in present-day society, stripped of all illusions as to what the future may hold?

ColectivA X MM DIN Y KM (Romunija/Romania)

A drama of documents Almost forty kilometres of documents were retrieved from the archives of the Romanian intelligence agency Securitate after the year 1989. After running through these documents, the performers came across front-page dramas and sagas, not just about accused people, but also about government agents, who would talk about themselves and vividly describe pure figments of their imagination. How can these documents be seen from today’s point of view? Should they be treated as bombs ready to go off? Where to go from here? Dorin Tudoran, the writer and journalist who migrated from Romania in 1985, published parts of his archives in a book. In terms of genre, these fragments – written in the form of dialogues and accompanied by stage directions – read like dramas. They sound contemporary. Several truths and multiple perspectives come into play in this Rashomon-like triangle between the Communist Party propaganda Chief, the President of the Writers’ Society and Dorin Tudoran. A story about trying to take X millimetres away from Y kilometres while confronting the past and present on stage.

Patrícia Portela THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF ACÁCIO NOBRE (Portugalska/Portugal)

A concert for remembrance and two typewriters While going through the basement of her grandparents one day, Portuguese artist Patrícia Portela found a chest, containing the writings and designs of Acácio Nobre, a forgotten inventor and artist from the beginning of the 20th century. He was what you might call the Portuguese da Vinci, Lumière or Steve Jobs: a toy inventor, a science fiction author, a bio-engineer, an art devotee and an avant-gardist. Nobre had been silenced and erased from Portuguese history by the dictatorship. By using a silent movie accompanied by two typewriters as a simultaneous narrative with musical scenery, Patrícia Portela goes on to create a story by forming a dialogue with the avant-gardist through an account of his plans, political ideas and ambitious scientific and art projects.

Pionir 10 KONCERT/CONCERT (Srbija/Serbia)

Magnetismerised This year’s ‘festival band’ is Pionir 10, a Serbian collective that has not yet made its appearance on Slovene stages. They named themselves after a satellite, which was the first spacecraft to enter the asteroid belt in the early seventies of the 20th century. They like to refer to themselves as members of a lost generation. They are a New Wave group from Subotica, and were previously known as Miške i drugari. Their concerts sweep dazzled audiences off their feet. And no wonder: amazing music, great lyrics and contemporary sounds, wrapped up in sweet nostalgia.

Jolika Sudermann, Alma Söderberg A TALK (Nemčija, Švedska/Germany, Sweden)

Ples jezika Kakšna melodijo imajo ljubezenske zgodbe? V kakšnih ritmih dvomimo drug o drugem?

The dance of language What is the melody embedded in love stories? Which rhythmic patterns convey distrust for one another? How deep does the whispering of our secrets go? What do the silences between our sentences talk about? We converse about a great many things every single day. Some conversations are life-altering, whereas some are trivial. And then sometimes, we speak just to hear our own voice. After studying various conversations from up close, Jolika Sudermann and Alma Söderberg have come to find that they are inhabited with an abundance of melodies, rhythms and gestures. When in a conversation, we actually sing and dance with each other. This award-winning performance, entitled A Talk is a virtuosic play of words and language, a composition of content. The brilliant duet slides within a blank space, arising between sensuality and meaning.

De Utvalgte KUNSTEN Å BLI TAM (Norveška/Norway)

Skrivnost človeškega Predstava oder spremeni v sanjsko sliko in z inventivno uporabo svetlobe, zvoka in hipnotične tridimenzionalnosti ustvarja posebno izkušnjo. In govori o človeku. O spominih. Staranju. Strahu pred smrtjo.

The secret of being human This performance transforms the stage into a dream landscape and thus offers a uniquely exquisite experience by invoking an inventive play of light and sound amidst hypnotic three-dimensional reality. It speaks about being human. About memories. About growing old. About the fear of dying. About the fear of living. It cannot help but wonder while staring wilderness right in the eye, whether underneath all that human desire for love and security there may not yet await our yearning to be tamed and to belong. Can it be that the thing, generally referred to as ‘the mind’ in human beings, is something utterly metaphysical? Or, on the other hand, are we nothing but slaves to our instincts? Archetypes of some other lives lived? The most profound answers to these questions are conveyed through a metaphor one can find in fairy tales that speak about men and animals in one breath. Images of representation travel through our blood as something utterly beautiful and cruel at the same time and then attach themselves to our memories. Everything seems so familiar; we must have been here before.

Davis Freeman/Random Scream EXPANDING ENERGY (Belgija, Velika Britanija/Belgium, Great Britain)

And what would you be willing to give up? Expanding Energy is not only a one-day conference, but a dance performance, devious political theatre and a concert at the same time. With participating musicians from the group Einstürzende Neubauten & Candy Bomber, actors from Forced Entertainment and lots of volunteers. Davis Freeman, a performance artist who has been working with Forced Entertainment, Superamas, Meg Stuart and others, started his own company Random Scream in 1999. In this event, Freeman will delve into our obsession with energy. If future generations and life on Earth are to be preserved, then we will eventually have to start doing things differently. We can all agree on this, and yet everyone just sits around and waits. This isn’t a classic performance about ecology as much as it is a collage of social issues, the economy, political incorrectness and physicality. So… what would you be willing to give up for a better future?

Roger Bernat/FFF PENDIENTE DE VOTO (Španija/Spain)

How about making some decisions tonight? Theatre becomes an audience-run parliament in Roger Bernat’s event. As he explained in one of his interviews, theatre in his mind is a space where people come to reflect upon what it means to live in a certain society. And this is what Bernat’s event is literally all about. The main characters are the audience members themselves, who act as the driving force of action, since they are expected to use a voting device, to make choices and to participate in a debate. Are you ready to play that game? Are you a Beatles or a Stones fan? What do the wheels of democracy look like? Do we have any idea about what propels politics these days? A dialogue perhaps? Arguments? Parties? Colours? The fight for rights? Money? One needs to look from up close and from within. Therefore: enough with the pseudo-debates in real parliaments, tonight we’ll see a real debate in a pseudo-parliament. An exercise in direct democracy, the one we’ve become estranged from and forgotten exists in the first place.

George Orwell, Andrej Rozman Roza ŽIVALSKA FARMA (Slovenija/Slovenia)

We’re all on the same farm George Orwell wrote the novel Animal Farm back in 1945. The story of the equality of all animals (with some being more equal than others) wasn’t just a critique of totalitarianism, but also testifies to the fact that every leader is nothing but a ‘dirty two-legged swine’ and that while every new authority promises a better future, they merely end up gratifying their own greedy needs and imposing their own ideas. This outstanding duet, comprised of the director Vito Taufer and the writer Andrej Rozman Roza, once again testifies to the fact that a masterpiece classic can be used as an effective mirror of the present times. Suitable for all generations, this puppet performance will lure the audience into humming the melody of the song We are Blacksmiths sung by the animals late into the night. Therefore: »Our eggs he steals, our cows he milks, the juices of our youth he slurps, once more shall we demand what’s ours: rise up, resist, revolt!«

Stefan Kaegi CIUDADES PARALELAS (Nemčija, Švica/Germany, Switzerland) Predavanje o prenosnem festivalu v Berlinu, Buenos Airesu, Varšavi in Zurichu./Lecture on a portable festival in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Warsaw and Zurich.

Kako izvažati ideje in obenem zadržati njihov reaktivni naboj? Nekatere stvaritve so namenjene le enemu gledalcu, nekatere stotim. Nekateri performerji se postavijo v vlogo pevcev, drugi v vlogo pisateljev, tretji v vlogo mimoidočih in četrti kar v vlogo občinstva.

How to export ideas without losing their impact? Can a festival ask global questions and get local answers? Hotel rooms, shopping centres, factories… these are functional places, and not usually thought of as interesting. For “Ciudades Paralelas”, Lola Arias and Stefan Kaegi have invited artists like Ant Hampton, Tim Etchells, Christian Garcia, Mariano Pensotti, Gerardo Nauman, Ligna and Dominic Huber to devise interventions for spaces that exist in any city around the world. Some of them chose to work with radio receivers or headphones, others with a choir, or with people in their workspaces. Some pieces are for 1, others are for 100 spectators. Some of the performers are singers, others writers, passers-by or even the audience themselves. Since 2010, eight projects have been staged with different performers in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Warsaw and Zurich. Now Stefan Kaegi comes to Ljubljana to show the festival a synchronised video-lecture on four screens simultaneously, letting the viewers see the audience use and interact with the local stagings of portable ideas.

KAKO PRELISIČITI KRIZO?/HOW TO OUTSMART THE CRISIS? Mini konferenca/Mini-conference

Uvodničar: Pascal Brunet Sodelujejo: Anela Bešo, Rarita Zbranca, Kyohei Sakaguchi, Davis Freeman, Mariko Tsukaguchi … Moderatorka: Nevenka Koprivšek

Looking back From 12.00 pm to 2.00 pm The Mladi levi festival came into being in response to mainstream European festivals as part of the Junge Hunde network. The latter was devoted to providing more space for younger artists and their development within the international scene. The network no longer exists, but its former members and certain artists have nevertheless managed to maintain strong connections. What happened to the generations of artists and producers who were on their way up 15 years ago? Where could the new, vulnerable and precarious arise from in the present? In what way do we remember the achievements accomplished within the last 15 years and how well prepared are we to face future challenges? Introductory speaker: Res Bosshart Participating: Bush Hartshorn, Massimo Mancini, Stefan Kaegi, Martine Pisani, Tomàs Aragay, Frédéric Mazzely, Mustafa Kaplan, Goran Bogdanovski … Moderator: Nevenka Koprivšek

Looking beyond From 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm The current crisis has drastically weakened the economic, social, cultural and democratic tissue of Europe and still continues to persist across the continent. While we do see art and culture gradually becoming crucial engines in propelling the new momentum of society, austerity measures (cutting more than 20% of financing) also act as a severe destabilizing force, hindering the dynamics of art and culture in Europe. It is absolutely crucial therefore, to examine and reflect upon our existing abilities of permanent reaction, which would allow us to pull through the crisis without jeopardizing either the potential in this new momentum or the European cultural players. Introductory speaker: Pascal Brunet Participating: : Stefan Kaegi, Martine Pisani, Tomàs Aragay, Anela Bešo, Rarita Zbranca, Kyohei Sakaguchi, Davis Freeman, Mariko Tsukaguchi … Moderator: Nevenka Koprivšek

Obisk Kulturnega središča evropskih vesoljskih tehnologij/Visit to the Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies Vitanje

29. avgust, odhod izpred Metelkove 2 ob 11.00, prihod v Ljubljano ob 16.30/August 29th departing in front of Metelkova 2 at 11.00 am, returning to Ljubljana at 4.30 pm

6. septembra letos bo v Vitanju odprtje edinstvenega kulturnega centra, Kulturnega središča evropskih vesoljskih tehnologij. Goste festivala vabimo na predotvoritveni izlet, kjer nam bo idejni vodja KSEVT-a, umetnik Dragan Živadinov, predstavil središče in napovedal prihodnje projekte.

A remarkably unique institution in the arena of culture, the Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies Vitanje, will open its doors on the September 6th this year. Guests of the Mladi levi festival are kindly invited to attend a pre-opening excursion to the Centre, where the artist Dragan Živadinov will explain its purpose and outline its future projects. A short artistic intervention will be held before the presentation.

Ksevt’s permanent project is 0.14::VERTIKALIZACIJA::MG The première of the fifty-year-long theatre performance NOORDUNG::1995-2045 took place in 1995. Once every ten years a reprise will be staged on the same day, at the same time and with the same performers. If one of the actors or actresses happens to die in the interval, they will be replaced on stage by an abstract entity, manipulated by a remote control and set up in the equatorial orbit as an art satellite in 2045. In 2011, Milena Grm, the first actress of this fifty year-long performance, passed away.

Societat Doctor Alonso/Tomás Aragay INTRODUCTION TO INTRODUCTION Delo v nastajanju/Work in progress (Španija/Spain)

The authors drew inspiration for this work in progress from Aristotle’s Metaphysics. The great Greek claimed that all natural creatures are subjected to constant movement and change, which can occur either in their potential or in their actual being. Within these two modes of movement and change, there is a narrative element. It sounds complicated, but the ancient Greeks are quite simple and clear really.

POLETNI LIRIČNI UTRINKI V MESTU/SUMMER LYRICAL MINUTES IN THE CITY (Slovenija, Belgija/Slovenia, Belgium)

Lirični utrinki v mestu so nastali v okviru lanskega festivala Mladi levi. So klasika, preoblečena v svežo in pisano preobleko in so zagotovo ena najbolj liričnih osvežitev poletne Ljubljane. Lani so doživeli izjemen uspeh, zato smo se odločili, da jih ponovimo. V času festivala Mladi levi bodo nastopili: petek, 31. avgust ob 12.00 in 13.00, Petkovškovo nabrežje sobota, 1. september ob 11.00 in 12.00, Tržnica Ljubljana nedelja, 2. september ob 11.00 in 12.00, bolšjak, Breg

Lyrical Minutes in the City emerged under the auspices of last year’s Mladi levi festival. They’re a classic, dressed up in a fresh and colourful new outfit and here to offer one of the most lyrical summer refreshments of Ljubljana. Last year the intervention was a huge success and for that very reason we’ve decided for a reprise. During the Mladi levi festival, the following lyrical moments will take place: Friday, August 31st at 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm, at Petkovškovo nabrežje Saturday, September 1st at 11.00 am and 12.00 pm, in the Ljubljana City Market Sunday, September 2nd at 11.00 am and 12.00 pm, at the flea market, Breg

TU in TAM Festivalska kuhinja Mladih levov/The Mladi levi festival kitchen

Umetnost druži ljudi, ampak tudi hrana in pijača sta kultura in socialno lepilo. Festival bo vsak dan nahranil vse sodelujoče na ploščadi Slovenskega etnografskega muzeja v duhoviti jedilnici, polni kreativne topline. Znameniti TAM-ov avtobus, ki je prepotoval že tisoče kilometrov in prepeljal mnogo potnikov skozi čas in različne dežele, bo kuhinjska centrala, jedilnica pa točka srečanj, kjer se bodo festivalska ekipa in gostje odpočili in okrepčali. Potujoča SUPER kuhinja bo s svojimi iskrenimi okusi postala prestižna in enkratna restavracija, polna drobnih domislic in malih dogodkov.

Art undoubtedly brings people together, but so do food and drinks: they are also a part of culture and undeniably function as social glue. Everyone participating at the festival will therefore be fed every day in a humorous dining room, filled with creative warmth and located at the platform by the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. Having travelled thousands of kilometres and having taken many passengers through time and different lands, the bus will be converted into a kitchen base, whereas the dining room will become a meeting point, where the festival team and guests will be able to rest and gather their strength. The travelling SUPERkitchen, with its sincere flavours, will thus become a prestigious and unique restaurant full of tiny ideas and small events.

Vabimo vas na slavnostno otvoritev ob kepici sladoleda in kozarcu osvežilne limonade. Pripeljite svoje najmlajše in se poigrajte z nami!

Children’s playground in Tabor Park

At the previous Mladi levi festival, the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković, made a promise to fulfil one of the wishes made by the inhabitants and the visitors of the Tabor city district in the framework of the Map of Wishes project, organised by the prostoRož Collective. A wish came true and a new playground emerged in Tabor Park. We would like to invite everyone to the solemn opening with a scoop of ice cream and a glass of refreshing lemonade. Bring your little ones and play with us!

ARENA Festivalski časopis Mladih levov/The Mladi levi festival newspaper

Za ekipo Arenovcev so letos pripravili praktične delavnice trije mentorji: kritik in zgodovinar sodobnega plesa Rok Vevar, urednica Deloskopa časopisa Delo, Maja Megla in profesor dramaturgije na Zurich University of the Arts, Res Bosshart. Arena bo izšla 23., 27. in 31. avgusta. Na voljo bo na vseh festivalskih prizoriščih.

The Mladi levi festival newspaper Arena has been released since 2002, bringing a fresh breath of air with a strong authorial touch of current writers to every festival. The newspaper thus came into being thanks to young authors who were interested in reflecting upon contemporary art from a critical perspective as editors, creative writers and designers. The Mladi levi festival offers writers a precious opportunity to observe a condensed manifestation of contemporary art from all over the world, whereas Arena provides a space for them to outline and announce the festival’s activities, thus holding a mirror to the festival and remembering Mladi levi’s imprint in time and space. Three mentors prepared practical workshops for the Arena team this year: the art critic and historian of contemporary dance Rok Vevar; the editor of Delo newspaper’s Deloskop, Maja Megla; and the lecturer in dramaturgy at the Zurich University of the Arts, Res Bosshart. Arena will be published on August 23rd, 27th and 31st. It will be available at all festival venues.

LEVOPIS

A book and a film upon the anniversary The fifteenth festival is an opportunity to look back; to perform a self-evaluation and see things from an outside perspective. This is why we will publish a book of texts on Mladi levi entitled Levopis, while at the end of the year a documentary film about the festival’s decade and a half of existence will be released. www.bunker.si.
