Sa svoja prethodna dva filma, &#8216;Caveat&#8217; i &#8216;Oddity&#8217; (prikazan na Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival 2024), dobio je status \u201ede\u010dka koji obe\u0107ava\u201c u svijetu horor filmova, da bi s ovim posljednjim dobio produkcijske i distribucijske uvjete na vi\u0161oj razini. Unato\u010d tome, McCarthy je i ovaj film snimio u Irskoj, uz mali izlet u pustinje Abu Dhabia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; width: 100%;\" src=\" https:\/\/media.themoviedb.org\/t\/p\/w1066_and_h600_face\/e9UvRjJAqn2hLXDfMHU1LFMEKGv.jpg \" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fotografiju ustupio <strong><a href=\" https:\/\/www.themoviedb.org\/movie\/1430077-hokum \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> TMDB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Na po\u010detku filma upoznajemo Ohm Baumana (Adam Scott), pisca koji se pati s krajem, kako \u0107emo poslije doznati, zavr\u0161ne knjige svoje trilogije. On odlu\u010di oti\u0107i u Irsku, u hotel u kojemu su njegovi pokojni roditelji (majka je upucana iz pi\u0161tolja kad je Ohm bio mali, a otac se nakon toga propio i razbolio) proveli medeni mjesec i gdje su po njegovu mi\u0161ljenju zadnji put bili istinski sretni, za \u0161to mu kao dokaz slu\u017ei slika njegove nasmije\u0161ene majke pokraj nekog drveta. Njegov plan je prona\u0107i to drvo i tamo prosuti pepeo svojih roditelja. U hotelu koji je smje\u0161ten uz \u0161umu i koji je nao\u010digled pro\u0161ao svoje najbolje dane, Ohma malo bolje upoznajemo i vidimo da je on nimalo ugodna osoba, sklona alkoholu, za koju se mo\u017ee pretpostaviti da je negdje u sebi duboko nesretna osoba. Najprijatniji je u komunikaciji s konobaricom Fionom, koja ga uputi gdje je drvo pokraj kojega se njegova majka slikala, recepcionara Mela i domara Fergala podnosi koliko mora, dok je posebno neugodan prema nosa\u010du prtljage Albyu (koji za sebe tvrdi da nije nosa\u010d prtljage nego pisac, te je zamolio Ohma da pro\u010dita njegov rukopis, \u0161to je Ohm odbio na nepristojan na\u010din iako je Alby jedan od simpati\u010dnijih djelatnika hotela). Dok je istresao pepeo kod drveta jo\u0161 je i upoznao lokalnog \u010dudaka Jerryja koji \u017eivi u kombiju i koji ga upoznaje s napitkom od mlijeka i \u010darobnih gljiva. Jerry tvrdi da je to napitak koji otvara um. Nakon \u0161to konzumira \u201e\u010darobni napitak\u201c, Ohm se zatvori u svoju sobu gdje ga Alby i Fiona nalaze u poku\u0161aju samoubojstva vje\u0161anjem. Nakon \u0161to se probudi, nakon nekog vremena u bolnici, Ohm povratkom u hotel saznaje da je Fiona nestala, a da je glavni osumnji\u010deni Jerry. Me\u0111utim Jerry je siguran da se Fiona nalazi u apartmanu za mladence, do kojega se dolazi liftom, a koji je ve\u0107 dugo godina zatvoren jer je u njemu vi\u0111ena vje\u0161tica. Ohm to ne vjeruje, ali ipak ispija Jerryiev napitak koji osloba\u0111a um i odlazi u apartman za mladence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Iako je film nominalno horor, cijelo vrijeme on koketira sa psiholo\u0161kim trilerom, pa i obiteljskom dramom. Adam Scott (jedini Amerikanac u ekipi, uklju\u010duju\u0107i i glumce i tehni\u010dko osoblje) uvjerljivo tuma\u010di \u010dovjeka koji je nesimpati\u010dan i nesretan iako je uspje\u0161an pisac. Film gradi pri\u010du na atmosferi i irskom predajnom folkloru, a ne na \u201eskokovima\u201c, te svakako ima dojmljivu re\u017eiju, ali i kameru (Colm Hogan), monta\u017eu (Brian Philip Davis) i scenografiju (Ciara McKenna). Najve\u0107i prigovor svakako bi bio na pomalo nedosljedan scenarij s ponekad \u010dudnim odlukama likova. Dojam je da je uz vi\u0161e minimalizma ovo mogao biti bolji film.
