Cannes a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif dans mon parcours de cin\u00e9aste. En 1988, j\u2019ai particip\u00e9 au March\u00e9 du Film avec mon premier film, <i>Bad Taste<\/i>, puis, en 2001, nous avons projet\u00e9 une s\u00e9quence en avant-premi\u00e8re du <i>Seigneur des Anneaux<\/i>. Baz Luhrmann et <a class=\"link-build-content\" href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/f\/moulin-rouge-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Moulin Rouge!<\/i><\/a> avaient ouvert le 54e Festival de Cannes. Nanni Moretti s\u2019appr\u00eatait \u00e0 recevoir la Palme d\u2019or pour<a class=\"link-build-content\" href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/f\/la-stanza-del-figlio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i> La Chambre du fils<\/i><\/a> des mains de la Pr\u00e9sidente du Jury Liv Ullmann. Sur la Croisette, 26 minutes vont changer la vie de Peter Jackson : les premi\u00e8res images, les premiers plans d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9poustouflants du <i>Seigneur des Anneaux<\/i>, encore sur les tables de montage, pour une projection \u00e0 la presse sept mois avant la sortie mondiale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le scepticisme initial se transforme en enthousiasme g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Le succ\u00e8s ravageur de la saga en Terre du Milieu commence ce jour-l\u00e0. Remportant leur pari fou, Peter Jackson et New Line Cinema (et en France Metropolitan Filmexport des fr\u00e8res Hadida) d\u00e9butent un chemin de gloire et de reconnaissance plan\u00e9taires, tant critiques que publiques, avec 17 Oscars (dont 11 pour le dernier opus \u00e0 \u00e9galit\u00e9 avec <a class=\"link-build-content\" href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/f\/ben-hur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Ben-Hur<\/i><\/a> et <i>Titanic<\/i>) et 3 milliards de dollars de recettes (8e franchise la plus rentable de l\u2019Histoire avec un investissement 10 fois moindre).<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, c\u2019est lors de sa c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019ouverture, le mardi 12 mai 2026, que le Festival de Cannes c\u00e9l\u00e8brera Peter Jackson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">La Pr\u00e9sidente Iris Knobloch se r\u00e9jouit que, \u00ab pour sa 79e \u00e9dition, l\u2019institution accueille et remercie un r\u00e9alisateur \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 d\u00e9bordante qui a offert au genre de l\u2019heroic fantasy ses lettres de noblesse. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le D\u00e9l\u00e9gu\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Thierry Fr\u00e9maux confirme qu\u2019il y a \u00ab clairement un avant et un apr\u00e8s Peter Jackson. Le cin\u00e9ma de la d\u00e9mesure est sa marque de fabrique et son art total du divertissement particuli\u00e8rement ambitieux. Il a durablement transform\u00e9 le cin\u00e9ma hollywoodien et sa conception du grand spectacle. Mais Peter Jackson n\u2019est pas seulement un tr\u00e8s grand technicien ; c\u2019est avant tout un immense conteur. Et un artiste impr\u00e9visible : quel sera son prochain univers ? \u00bb<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">En effet, rares sont les cin\u00e9astes \u00e0 avoir initi\u00e9 des virages aussi d\u00e9cisifs dans leur pratique. Peter Jackson, r\u00e9alisateur, producteur et sc\u00e9nariste, est de ceux-l\u00e0. Sa mythique trilogie du <i>Seigneur des Anneaux<\/i> d\u00e9but\u00e9e en 2001 a r\u00e9volutionn\u00e9 sur grand \u00e9cran la mani\u00e8re de fabriquer des images, cr\u00e9er des univers et raconter des histoires. Entreprise sans \u00e9quivalent jusqu\u2019alors, l\u2019adaptation cin\u00e9matographique du monument de la litt\u00e9rature fantastique de J.R.R. Tolkien pourtant r\u00e9put\u00e9e impossible \u00e9tait loin d\u2019\u00eatre gagn\u00e9e. Apr\u00e8s quelques succ\u00e8s d\u2019estime (<i>Bad Taste<\/i>, 1987 ; <em>Braindead<\/em>, 1992 ; <i>Cr\u00e9atures c\u00e9lestes<\/i>, 1994), Peter Jackson se lance dans la pr\u00e9paration des trois \u00e9pisodes qui sortiront \u00e0 un an d\u2019intervalle :<i> La Communaut\u00e9 de l\u2019Anneau<\/i> (2001), <i>Les Deux Tours<\/i> (2002), et <i>Le Retour du roi<\/i> (2003). Int\u00e9gralement et simultan\u00e9ment tourn\u00e9e dans le cadre somptueux de la Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande qui accueille \u00e9galement la post-production des effets sp\u00e9ciaux, du montage et du mixage, la trilogie pr\u00e9sente un d\u00e9fi logistique colossal : 2 ann\u00e9es de pr\u00e9-production, 274 jours de tournage, 3 ans de post-production, 20 602 figurants, 2 400 techniciens, un budget d\u2019un 1 million de dollars par jour !<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tout y est, avec une intensit\u00e9 ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nale, un r\u00e9alisme saisissant et une impressionnante fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 de reconstitution : les sinistres Mines de la Moria, le l\u00e9gendaire face-\u00e0-face entre Gandalf et le Balrog, l\u2019apocalyptique bataille du Gouffre de Helm, la spectaculaire charge des cavaliers du Rohan aux Champs du Pelennor ou l\u2019affrontement final aux Portes du Mordor dans un d\u00e9luge indescriptible de barbarie. Accompagn\u00e9 par W\u0113t\u0101 FX, son studio d\u2019effets sp\u00e9ciaux situ\u00e9 \u00e0 Wellington qui \u0153uvrera plus tard sur <i>Avatar<\/i>, Peter Jackson navigue entre un algorithme, qui permet de recr\u00e9er des sc\u00e8nes de foule et de combats \u00e9piques, et des trucages vieux comme le cin\u00e9matographe avec des jeux de positionnement, de d\u00e9cors naturels et d\u2019objectifs de cam\u00e9ras, sans manipulation num\u00e9rique. Ce subtil dosage prot\u00e8ge l\u2019authenticit\u00e9 du projet et permet ind\u00e9niablement \u00e0 la trilogie de traverser les \u00e9poques, tout en rendant l\u2019univers de Tolkien omnipr\u00e9sent dans la pop culture, encore aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apr\u00e8s ce succ\u00e8s mondial, Peter Jackson signe en 2005 un remake du l\u00e9gendaire <i>King Kong<\/i> et retrouvera, quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, la Terre du Milieu tolkienienne en r\u00e9alisant la trilogie <i>Le Hobbit<\/i> entre 2012 et 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grand conteur d\u2019histoires, l\u2019infatigable cin\u00e9aste choisit r\u00e9cemment de s\u2019engager sur des projets documentaires plus singuliers mais tout aussi colossaux. <i>Pour les soldats tomb\u00e9s<\/i> (2018) d\u00e9poussi\u00e8re les archives de 14-18 \u00e0 travers 600 heures d\u2019interviews et 100 heures de s\u00e9quences originales restaur\u00e9es et coloris\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-build-content\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">La minis\u00e9rie <i>The Beatles: Get Back<\/i> (2001) propose un montage de 60 heures d\u2019images in\u00e9dites de l\u2019enregistrement de l\u2019album <i>Let It Be<\/i>, d\u00e9but 1969. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, ces quatre gar\u00e7ons dans le vent avaient essuy\u00e9 un refus de la part de Tolkien lui-m\u00eame suite \u00e0 leur demande d\u2019adaptation du <i>Seigneur des Anneaux,<\/i> avec Stanley Kubrick aux commandes, John Lennon en Gollum, Paul McCartney en Frodon, George Harrison en Gandalf et Ringo Starr en Sam.
