U burnoj povijesti studija posebno se isti\u010du dva razdoblja\u00a0\u2013\u00a0kasne 1930-te kada su filmovi Nikkatsua naslutili poslijeratni talijanski neorealizam i desetlje\u0107e od sredine 1950-ih do sredine 1960-ih u kojem je prevladavala popularna masovna zabava i \u017eanrovski filmovi. Tijekom godina okupacije Nikkatsu je bio aktivan samo kao distributer ameri\u010dkih filmova, koji su sna\u017eno utjecali na filmove studija kada je 1954. Nikkatsu iznova pokrenuo filmsku proizvodnju. Nikkatsu je regrutirao niz pomo\u0107nika redatelja iz drugih studija, ve\u0107inom iz studija Sh\u00f4chiku, me\u0111u kojima su bili Sh\u00f4hei Imamura i Seijun Suzuki. Njih dvojica predstavljaju dvojnu strukturu japanskog studijskog sustava\u00a0\u2013\u00a0\u00a0tjednu izmjenu dvostrukih programa, koja se sastojala od glavnog i dodatnog filma. Prvi su naj\u010de\u0161\u0107e bili ambiciozniji, ra\u0111eni s ve\u0107im bud\u017eetom i &#8220;velikim imenima&#8221; te su dobivali svu medijsku pozornost, a drugi su bili niskobud\u017eetni poslovi za pre\u017eivljavanje koji su slu\u017eili popularnom ukusu. Dok je Imamura ubrzo postao me\u0111unarodno priznati redatelj A-filma, Seijun Suzuki se posvetio B-filmu. Od svojeg redateljskog prvijenca iz 1956. proizveo je golem broj \u017eanrovskih filmova, uglavnom akcijskih i gangsterskih filmova, u kojima je razvijao umje\u0161nost i njegovao svoj osobiti stil.Godine 1963. dosegao je prvi vrhunac s filmom\u00a0<em>Mladost zvijeri\u00a0<\/em>(Yaj\u00fb ne seishun). Iste je godine po\u010deo raditi sa scenografom Takeom Kimurom, koji mu je postao blizak suradnik i koji je utjecao na dodatno usavr\u0161avanje Suzukijevog vizualnog stila. Otada je stilski eksces zamijenio narativnu logiku, a pravila i konvencije postoje samo kako bi se kr\u0161ili ili ignorirali.\u00a0<em>Tokijski vjetropir<\/em>\u00a0(Tokyo nagaremono), primjerice, prepun je ekscentri\u010dnih polo\u017eaja kamere i plamsaju\u0107e estetike boje, bujne stilizacije i prekomjernog manirizma. Suzukijevi su filmovi zapanjivali studijske \u0161efove Nikkatsua sve do 1968. kada su ga nakon filma\u00a0<em>O\u017eigosan da ubije\u00a0<\/em>(Koroshi ne rakuin) otpustili pod izlikom da su njegovi filmovi nerazumljivi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suzukijevo otpu\u0161tanje predstavlja klju\u010dnu prekretnicu. Iako nije mogao raditi filmove sljede\u0107ih deset, filmovi koje je snimio za Nikkatsu, koje su kriti\u010dari dotad manje ili vi\u0161e zanemarivali, kriti\u010dki su revalorizirani i u Japanu i izvan Japana, a Suzuki je postao slavan. Va\u017eno je istaknuti da su prevrednovanje njegovog rada i &#8220;otkri\u0107e&#8221; Suzukija kao jednog od velikih stilista svjetskog filma pokrenuli japanski filmofili, koji su nakon Suzukijeva otpu\u0161tanja organizirali protestni pokret protiv studija Nikkatsu, koji je njegove filmove zadr\u017eao &#8220;u bunkeru&#8221;. Taj spor, koji se odvijao i na sudu, bio je odlu\u010dan, ne samo zato \u0161to su njime izazvana vlasni\u010dka prava studija, nego i stoga \u0161to je prvi put postavio pitanje prava publike da vidi film. Nakon te\u0161kog razdoblja u kojem je povremeno radio televizijske filmove i reklame, Suzuki je tijekom 1980-ih uz pomo\u0107 producenta Genjir\u00f4a Aratoa uspio ostvariti tzv. Taish\u00f4 trilogiju, impresivan kasni rad koji je napokon po\u017enjeo nagrade koje su mu bile uskra\u0107ene za vrijeme njegovih Nikkatsu godina.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ovo predavanje \u0107e razmotriti Suzukijevu karijeru, posebnosti japanskog studijskog sustava u kojem se razvijao, obilje\u017eja njegovih filmova te kriti\u010dko vrednovanje Suzukija i njegovih filmova u Japanu i inozemstvu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Predavanje \u0107e biti na engleskom jeziku, a razgovor \u0107e moderirati Tanja Vrvilo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Roland Domenig<\/strong>, izvanredni profesor na Japanskim studijima Instituta za isto\u010dnoazijske studije, Sveu\u010dili\u0161ta u Be\u010du, u Austriji. Radi i kao filmski kustos te urednik filmskih programa, savjetnik filmskih festivala i prevoditelj japanskih filmova.
